Genital human papillomavirus, better known in its abbreviated form, HPV, is counted among the most common sexually transmitted infections. More than 40 types in HPV have been determined so far. These infections mainly affect the genital regions of males and females. In severe cases, the infections can also affect mouth and throat of the person. It is important to note that most of these infections go unnoticed in the initial stages. This is so because they do not show any evident signs of their outbreak in the progressive stages. However, when the infection spreads in the body, it appears in the form of genital warts among both the sexes. In rare cases, these warts can also be developed around the throat and mouth. This condition is better known as recurrent respiratory papillomatosis. These warts can appear within a span of few weeks or months after the establishment of sexual contacts with an infected person. In case, the condition is left untreated, it will become severe and become cancerous. As per the experts, the relentless ignoring of the symptoms of this infection can near the dangers of cervical cancer. Therefore, it is utmost important to go for several tests as soon as the first signs of disease are observed. |
