How Estrogen Therapy Functions? |
The term “Estrogen Therapy”, signifies the administration of estrogen hormones in case of their deficiency. This medical procedure is administered among those patients whose ovaries are no longer able to produce this sex hormone. The procedure can be conducted through both surgical methods as well as administration of oral medications, depending on the severity of malfunctions in the ovaries. The therapy proves extremely beneficial in relieving symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats caused due to lack of estrogen. Apart from medicinal and surgical methods, the therapy is also conducted with the help of estrogen patch. The patch is applied on the skin surface from where the hormone enters in the bloodstream. This method is preferred over medical method, as during the application of the patch, the stream of estrogen enters directly into the blood without undergoing any processing by the liver. Some other methods of estrogen replacement include application of vaginal ring, creams and gels. Most of these methods are administered to relieve the person from uncomfortable symptoms of menopause, osteoporosis, and colon cancer. The process is usually encouraged once the women cross the age of 40. It is after this age that most of them experience severe depletion in the percentage of estrogen in the body. |
