The four stages of syphilis include
Primary Syphilis: In this initial stage a single chancre or sore (ulcer) comes out on the genital area or sometime it appears on the mouth region. This sore or ulcer usually painless and it are visible to the naked eye. The primary stage of syphilis occurs within 3 to 4 weeks after the existence bacteria. If you treat the infection in this stage, it will recover within one month.
Secondary Syphilis: In this stage, the infection spreads to other parts of the body and start infecting the entire body. During this stage, a red skin rash on the palms and on the feet are seen and it gradually covers whole the body. The symptoms of secondary syphilis include enlarged lymph nodes, fatigue, headache and hair loss.
Latent Syphilis: Latent syphilis starts when the symptoms of secondary stage syphilis vanish. Latent syphilis takes place in 2 phases in which the early has no symptoms but the infection continues the body. During this stage the infection is transmittable and thus one the patient should avoid sex. In the late phase of latent syphilis, the bacteria are non-infective and are not transmissible through a sexual contact.
Tertiary Syphilis: This is the most dangerous stage in which multiple complications develop and damage various parts of the body like the joints, bones, brain, heart, eyes and nervous system. Scathe caused in tertiary syphilis is permanent.
