Stages of HIV infection

HIV is a condition which involves the progressive destruction of the immune system of the body. The lack of a strong immune system can result your body to have increased chances of all types of infections.  These infections are terms as opportunistic infections by experts. There can be five stages of HIV infection- Primary HIV infection, the asymptomatic or ‘silent’ stage, early HIV symptomatic disease, medium-stage HIV symptomatic disease and late-stage HIV symptomatic disease (AIDS). The primary stage of HIV infection occurs after a few weeks of getting the HIV infection. It will cause flu like illness, swollen glands, sore throat, body aches and headaches. This stage lasts for one or two weeks after that the symptoms disappear. The Asymptomatic or silent stage comes after the long illness of HIV in the first stage. During this period the person will feel healthy and generally in this stage the person can infect other normal person. Early HIV symptomatic disease is followed after that. It is associated with fungal infections, mouth ulcers, swollen lymph glands, chest infections and weight loss. Medium stage HIV symptomatic disease is associated with persistent diarrhea, tuberculosis, ongoing fever and oral infections. During the last stage of HIV infection one can get severe diarrhea, severe pneumonia, severe weight loss, brain infections and memory loss.
