Can Patients Treated by Estrogen Therapy Suffer from Its Side Effects?

Estrogen therapy is associated with both minor and severe side effects. As per the doctors, excessive administration or long term administration of the therapy increases the risk for blood clots. The risk for clots, on the other hand, multiplies if the therapy is availed by those women who take to birth control pills as the primary form of avoiding unwanted pregnancies. In addition, the risk for breast cancer is also on a high among women taking to the administration of this hormone therapy. Further, the risk for uterine or endometrial cancer is also extremely high among women taking to this therapy. However, the combination of estrogen along with progesterone considerably reduces the risk for uterine cancer.   The long term intake of oral medications of estrogen nears the dangers of cardiovascular disorders. This is especially true among older women above the age of 60 years. However, the chances of these severe after-effects are considerably lower. Most of the women experience minor and tolerable symptoms immediately after the administration of the procedure. These symptoms include breast soreness, mood swings, headaches, water retention. These symptoms last for a couple of minutes only and naturally alleviate without the need for any medication.
