Function of semen in male sexual life |
Semen is the white colored fluid emitted from the urethra of the penis at the time of ejaculation. Typically, healthy semen is foamy and sticky in nature. This fluid is the predominant secretion of the male released from his reproductive system. Within 30 minutes of ejaculation, the semen becomes clear and runny in appearance. Chlorine smelling semen is considered healthy. Moreover, as per the experts, healthy semen should typically taste sweet due to high content of fructose. However, the smell and taste may both vary and depend on the kind of diet consumed. The essential ingredients of the semen are amino acids, enzymes, fructose, prostaglandin, phosphorylcholine, zinc and potassium. The average volume of the semen released varies from one person to another. However, the general amount released is 2 ml to 5ml in every healthy male. It is significant to note that a single ejaculation contains more than 400 million-600 million sperms. However, the number of sperms also depends on the volume of the ejection and space between the recent and last ejection. The sample of semen is essentially collected for medical tests to determine the fertility of men. In case, the sample cannot be obtained by simple means of intercourse, it can be well obtained by masturbation. |
