The World Health Organization defines sexual health as a state of mental, emotional, physical, and social comfort. Sexual health means enjoying a happy and healthy sex life. This means that there should be no diseases involved like STDs. Sexually transmitted diseases are those which can be transmitted during intercourse when one of the partners is affected by the disease. Common STDs include Chlamydia infections, gonorrhea. For good sexual health there must be no problems like unwanted pregnancies, abortions, infertility, and sexual dysfunction. For this, any health or emotional problems like lack of libido, erectile dysfunction, fear of pregnancy, birth control must be addressed in the correct manner. Another point to remember is that one’s ideas about sexuality are greatly influenced by the socio economic situations, upbringing, religious beliefs, customs and experiences. As a result, different people may have different ideas about overall sexual health. There is no strict or rigid definition for sexual health. It depends upon physical health, mental well being, and one’s frame of mind. |
