How phimosis and paraphimosis differ from each other?

Phimosis is a medical condition in which the male cannot fully retract the erected foreskin of the penis to its normal state. Paraphimosis is a serious condition in which the foreskin gets trapped behind the coronal sulcus or glans penis. And in this condition also the male cannot pull back the foreskin to its normal flaccid position.
Usually phimosis in infants is caused because of physiological problems and it will disappear after certain time even without any intervention or treatment. This condition is normally settled within 5 years of age, but in some case, the boys may experience this condition till their puberty state. Phimosis in adults is caused due to pathological condition than physiological condition. Sometimes, it also caused due to some injury, infection, irritation, or inability to pull back the foreskin during adulthood. Infection on the foreskin, trauma and iatrogenic causes are some of the main reason for paraphimosis. Phimosis occurs commonly and it can be treated with phimosis stretching exercises, a topical steroid cream, or a dorsal slit and in severe cases, preputioplasty is done. Paraphimosis is pretty rare condition which needs instant treatment. This condition is usually treated by compressing the glans to pull back the foreskin gradually to its normal flaccid position.
