The micrograph of Pap test shows a high-level squamous intraepithelial lesion or HSIL. The abnormal cells of uterus and endocervix can be seen through this image. The Pap test is also known as Papanicolaou test or Pap smear test. Other names for this test are cervical smear or smear test. It can be considered as a screening test that is utilized in the study and practice of gynecology in order to perceive premalignant as well as malignant methods in ectocervix. The Pap test was first invented by Greek doctor Georgios Papanikolaou. In order to screen as well as detect the anal cancers, an anal pap smear is used. With the help of Pap smear, the cells from cervix of uterus and the endocervix are collected. These cells are studied under the microscope in order to search for abnormalities. With the help of this test, the pre-cancerous changes can be detected, which are normally originated by human papillomaviruses or HPVs. This test is considered as one of the most effective and useful methods for detecting pre-cancer as well as cervical cancer. The abnormalities and infections in endometrium can also be detected from this test. It is normally recommended to the women. |
