Can sexual health be linked with mental condition? |
Your mental state can affect your sexual health to a great extent. If there is friction in a relationship, it is bound to reflect in the partner’s sexual desire also. Relationship problems, unresolved conflicts, change in ones feelings towards his or her partner can result in poor sexual performance or lack of interest in sex. Similarly, if you have any problem or worry on your mind, it will affect your sexual health. People who are stressed and depressed show very little if any interest in sex. They tend to feel listless, tired and uninterested in people and relationships. This takes a toll on their sex lives and causes tension in relationships. Studies have shown that people with depression experience a higher rate of sexual dysfunction. With proper treatment and counseling, the problems can be brought under control and libido returns to normal. New mothers also seem to have a lower libido. This could be due to the stress of caring for a newborn and managing the household. Couples who are undergoing stress in their marital relationships also have more incidences of problems like erectile dysfunction, orgasmic disorder. Men and women who suffer from problems like obesity may also have low libido because of their low self esteem and negative thoughts on their image. In conclusion, a person’s state of mind determines whether or not they enjoy good sexual health. |
