Can estrogen disorders be linked with hair fall?

To understand the link between hair loss and estrogen first of all it is important find out as to what estrogen is and what it does. There are changes that take place in the levels of estrogen especially during menopause, menstrual cycle and pregnancy. When a woman is pregnant the levels of estrogen is quite high in the body. And thus this promotes hair growth. Thus you can say that estrogen is directly related to hair growth and hair thickness. But post pregnancy, the levels of estrogen will come back to normal. Thus the excess hair undergoes the stage of telogen which is the resting phase. And then within the time frame of 4-5 months, this excess hair may fall out. Same is true for menopausal women who were on estrogen supplements. They have good hair growth. But soon after they leave the supplements, they experience hair loss post telogen phase. Thus, this explanation makes it clear that estrogen creates excess hair and on when these levels of estrogen are reduced, there is hair loss of that excess hair. But it is also important to note that estrogen has link with permanent hair loss too. And when that is the case men and women need professional help to regain healthy hair.
