However, in case a woman is unable to achieve a pregnancy within a year, she may be termed infertile. It has been observed that more than 10-15 per cent of the couples find difficulties in achieving conception within 6 months of unprotected sex. Various causes have been recognized to contribute towards failed conceptions among women. One of the most evident causes of female infertility is infrequent ovulation. Those who experience infrequent ovulation often witness menstrual cycle spaced for more than 30 days. Contributing factors like stress, eating disorders, rapid body weight sheds, strenuous exercises, thyroid problem aggravate the problem of abnormal ovulation among women. Sometimes, the main cause of infertility among women is the potent scarring in the fallopian tubes. This is a severe condition as it significantly prevents the fertilized egg from travelling and settling into the uterus. More than 30 per cent of infertile women are believed to suffer from this cause. In some cases, certain abnormalities in the lining or shape of the uterus also results into futile attempts for pregnancy. Such a condition is characterized by heavy bleeding from the vagina.
