Estrogen dominance refers to the condition of excessive accumulation of these female sex hormones in the body. This condition is equally harmful to the health as the lack of estrogen is. It severely affects the reproductive system of the body. In particular, the condition leads to irregular menstruation, polycystic ovaries, breast cancer, and uterus cancer. Loss of memory or short term memory is also potential outcome of estrogen dominance. People under this condition may experience forgetfulness, depression, insomnia, mood swings. People also sometimes become susceptible to water retention. This increases the weight usually around thighs, hips and lower abdomen. Women can also at times become extremely deficient of minerals like zinc and magnesium. Excessive presence of this hormone is also a potent cause of infertility. The condition affects the inner lining of the uterus and thus makes it impossible for the fertilized egg to get placed properly. This condition, apart from infertility, is also a major cause of early miscarriages. Most of the times, it is difficult to detect estrogen dominance in the body. This is because, the condition fails to show any significant or noticeable signs or symptoms on the body, therefore the condition remain untreated for long. |
