Tests done for diagnosing genital warts

Diagnosis of genital warts is little difficult task as it cannot be seen with the naked eye. They are very small in size and can be seen only when they develop into clusters. For diagnosing genital warts several questions will be asked by the doctor. The questions can be related to the symptoms experienced by you, history of sexual contact and intake of medicines. The doctor will then perform physical examination of your body to look out for the signs and symptoms of the genital warts. Many times genital warts can be diagnosed easily just by visual inspection by the doctor.   But the warts not visible by naked eye can be tested by applying 3 percent to 5 percent of acetic acid on the areas affected by it. This can be penis, vulva, vagina cervix or anus. These parts will change their color to white as soon as the acetic acid is applied. But the color change can also be due to presence of some other disease such as infection by yeast, lichen or psoriasis. To confirm its presence doctor opt for colposcopy test where special microscope is used to take a close look at the cervix and vagina areas. This is basically done to find the presence of virus of genital warts.
