Can Chlamydia and infertility be linked?

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection or STI caused by bacteria named Chlamydia trachomatis. It may be transmitted during anal, oral or vaginal sex. If number of your sex partners is more, the chances of the infection are more.  Chlamydia might cause temporary or permanent infertility. Multiple infections make the Chlamydia induced infertility more complicated. Women are at the riskier end of infertility due to Chlamydia compared to their male counterparts. If untreated, Chlamydia infection might transmit to the fallopian tube. As a result, the fallopian tube gets blocked. This disorder is referred as hydrosalpinx in the terms of medicine. Development of scar tissue in the fallopian tube is another major connection between Chlamydia infection and infertility in women. These scars impair the capability of fallopian tube to pick eggs up during ovulation period. As a result, the victim becomes vulnerable to infertility. However, this disorder can be cured if detected properly. Hysterosalpingogram is generally performed to confirm Chlamydia impact upon fertility. Laparoscopy test is also highly helpful in this direction. Doctors generally prescribe antibiotics to cure Chlamydia induced infertility.  During the treatment period, the victim needs to abstain herself from sex. However, preventing the chance of Chlamydia is the best way to avoid infertility complications.
