Symptoms of HIV in children

The symptoms of HIV can differ depending on the age of the children. However, there are some most common symptoms that can be seen in all the children. In the infants after birth the symptoms are generally not found. The infant can get the infection by the mother. The unavailability of the symptoms doesn’t mean that the child is not infected with HIV.  After six months of the birth the symptoms might occur. They will experience a delayed physical growth. A poor weight and bone growth will be noticed. The liver and spleen will get swollen and it can be seen that the abdomen has also swollen. The lymph nodes will swell in these infants. Intermittent diarrhea will frequently affect the child. In children above one year of age can have the same symptoms but they will be more severe. Swelling of lung tissue can be seen in a HIV infected child. This condition is known as Pneumonitis.  Yeast infections in the digestive tract and the lungs are the most common and severe symptoms found in the child. They can get fevers that can persist for months. Inflammation of liver by an infection can be seen resulting in hepatitis. PCP a common type of pneumonia can also be seen in the children.
